What the automated reader sends
The reader records and stores consumption and supplies it to the billing system through a transmitter wired to the meter. Staff collect readings while driving the street; the reader is not described as continuously broadcasting.
The page says the transmitted fields are the meter register number and consumption information. After installation, you no longer need to submit manual readings for the regular process.
Contact water@stcatharines.ca or 905-688-5600 for an early reader request at owner expense. A commercial or industrial customer due for meter replacement is contacted by staff for scheduling.
